Frequently Asked Questions

Is play therapy suitable for my child?

An intake consultation provides an opportunity to discuss your concerns and determine whether play therapy is the most appropriate support at that time. Alternative or additional supports may be recommended if needed.

Where do sessions take place?

Sessions are available from a clinic space in Alfred Cove, as well as through mobile services across Perth, including schools and early learning settings.

The most suitable option for your child will be discussed during the intake process.

Do parents or caregivers attend play therapy sessions?

Play therapy sessions are typically child-only, allowing children the space to express themselves freely through play.

When sessions take place at schools or early learning settings, parents or caregivers do not attend.

Ongoing communication and regular parent consultations are an important part of the process, ensuring you remain supported and involved in your child’s therapeutic journey.

How long will my child need therapy?

The length of therapy varies for each child and depends on their needs, goals and circumstances. Some children benefit from short-term support, while others require longer-term therapy. Progress is reviewed collaboratively over time.

How long are play therapy sessions?

Individual play therapy sessions run for 45 minutes. Additional time outside the session is allocated for playroom setup, cleaning of materials and clinical documentation, so sessions cannot be extended beyond the scheduled time.

How do parents and caregivers stay involved in the process?

Parents and caregivers play an important role in the therapeutic process.

Parent consultations provide an opportunity to discuss your child’s progress, share insights, and explore ways to support them at home. These are typically offered in person, with alternative arrangements available where needed.

In some cases, filial therapy may be offered, where parents are supported to engage in therapeutic play with their child.

What ages do you work with?

Play therapy services are generally offered to children aged approximately 3 to 12 years.

What about confidentiality?
Confidentiality is an important part of the therapeutic relationship. The limits of confidentiality, including any legal or safety exceptions, are explained during the intake process.
Do you offer Medicare rebates?

Medicare rebates are not available for play therapy services.

Do you accept NDIS funding?

NDIS self-managed and plan-managed participants will be accepted once provider registration is approved. NDIS services are charged in line with the NDIS Price Guide.
